In 2011, SonRise Church, a United Methodist Ministry in Pueblo West and Kabala UMC began a sister church relationship.  The United Methodists are doing great ministry in Kabala through a health clinic, a secondary school and in 2013, a new primary school.  SonRise was approached to considering helping to build a UM church in Kabala.  In November 2012, Bishop John Yambasu from Sierra Leone came to SonRise and preached on Sunday.  Shortly afterwards, SonRise committed to raising $50,000 to build the Kabala UMC building.  As of February, SonRise has raised about $35,000 which has started the construction process.  The church members created a matching fund of $20,000 to match individual contributions.  The Kingdom of God is growing in Sierra Leone through the United Methodist Church.  This initiative is about creating new places for new people to worship Jesus.  The goal is to have the church construction done by the end of June, 2013.

The pictures are the first ones of construction being done in Kabala.

On Saturday, September 8, 2012, Wesley UMC participated in the Pueblo community’s annual “Operation Paintbrush” program. The Wesley mission team consisted of 18 persons who scraped, cleaned, and painted.  Some of the work was done in advance, but most was done that Saturday. Operation Paintbrush is organized through the non-profit agency NeighborWorks, and assists homeowners who are elderly, disabled, and/or too poor to paint their own home.  Of the 20 teams participating in 2012, Wesley was the only church. NeighborWorks would love to have more churches get involved in September 2013, when they celebrate their 30th year, and hope to paint 25 houses. This is a great way to increase your church’s mission involvement! For more information about September 2013 involvement, call Rebecca Graves at NeighborWorks of Pueblo, 719-544-8078.
